Deal to sell land near Kennewick convention center in works

Vista Field Entertainment District near the convention center may see some new construction.

A developer from California has an option to purchase 9 acres near the Three Rivers Convention Center owned by the city of Kennewick.

Provost Group, Inc., of Santa Rosa and the city have agreed to a potential $2.2 million deal for the land next to the Hilton Garden Inn. The Council voted this week to authorize the purchase and sale agreement.

Provost Group Inc., wants to develop the property for retail and hospitality business, which could include restaurants, said Ken Nelson, Kennewick’s assistant public works director.

Nelson said the Provost Group, Inc., manages about 600,000 square feet of commerical properties, including some in Texas.

The sales agreement gives the buyer 180 days, with up to two additional 90-day extensions, to inspect the property before closing the deal.

Nelson said the city has been trying to sell the property since declaring it surplus a year ago.

The purchase price works out to $5.75 a square foot. If the deal goes through, Provost Group agreed to common area parking, area maintenance and public pedestrian easements that are part of the area plan for the Vista Entertainment District.
